## What This Dataset Includes

The source document contains two nationality-level tables covering January 1 to November 30, 2024:

1. **Applications table:** Counts of temporary and permanent residency *applications* filed by nationality.
2. **Grants table:** Counts of temporary and permanent residency *grants* (approvals) by nationality.

Both tables cover the same reporting period. They are published as **separate operational series**, not as matched case outcomes.

## Data Cleaning

- Spanish country names normalized to English equivalents for consistency.
- ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 and alpha-3 codes mapped for all nationalities.
- Numeric values extracted from formatted strings (e.g., "16,036" → 16036).
- Countries appearing only in grants (not in applications): Armenia, Bahamas, Belize, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Vanuatu, Zambia — included with applications counts set to 0.

## Important Caveats

### Applications and grants are not approval rates

Applications and grants are published as **separate same-period tables**. A grant recorded in the reporting period does not necessarily correspond to an application filed in the same period. The DNM notes that grants can correspond to applications from prior years, and that processing timelines affect when cases are resolved.

**This dataset should not be used to calculate approval rates by nationality.**

### Temporary and permanent distinction

Temporary residency (residência temporária) and permanent residency (residência permanente) are separate legal categories under Paraguayan immigration law. Their counts should not be combined without understanding the distinct legal pathways each represents.

## Region Classification

Geographic regions assigned based on standard UN/ISO regional classification. Western target market countries are defined by Paraguay Sovereign's commercial audience and include: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and other European countries.

## Future Editions

This is the 2024 edition. Future official yearly datasets will be published as separate year pages (2025, 2026) rather than replacing this page.
